The bell, Widumhaus and life in the past

Four bells hang in the tower of the Protestant church, built around 1350. One of them dates from between 1230 and 1250 and is considered the oldest bell in all of Württemberg that is still rung. The tower thus brings together a 14th-century building and a bell whose history stretches back further.

The Widumhaus also tells the story of how the parish priest was once provided with land and property. According to a description from 1666, it was the only one of the five Widum houses formerly in Ebhausen that still remained. Its historical function explains why these houses were more than just residential buildings: they were used to provide the parish priest with land and property.

The permanent exhibition “Life in Days Gone By” has been housed in the Old Schoolhouse on Schulstraße, built in 1840, since the end of 2000. Furniture, tools, clothing and linens show what was used in Ebhausen and the surrounding Upper Nagold Valley. For families, these objects can offer an engaging way to start conversations about everyday life in earlier times. Check the visiting arrangements before your visit.

Trails with different themes

The Historical Circular Trail is in Ebershardt, a district of Ebhausen. It is ten kilometres long and passes 27 information boards. They cover life in Ebershardt from the 12th to the 20th century, giving the circular trail a clear historical focus.

The Wenden Loop leads through the centre of Ebhausen. There is a place to stop for refreshments there; availability may change. Information boards point out places of historical interest. From the viewpoint on Goldberg, the panoramic view extends over the Black Forest heights towards the Hornisgrinde. A table with seating and a sky lounger invite you to pause and picnic there. If you plan to make use of these facilities, check their current condition in advance.

The 4.7-kilometre Flößerweg is a hiking and cycling trail between Ebhausen and Altensteig. Its starting point in Ebhausen is at the end of Zum Hau street. The information boards along the trail cover topics including timber rafting, the Monhardter Bach nature habitat, fauna and flora, wet meadows along the route, and the waterworks. This means that the themes along the route are just as much a focus as the trail itself.

Water and landscape

The 51-hectare Mindersbach Valley is characterised by springs, streams and ponds. The Nagold and several tributaries also shape its varied landscape. If, while planning your trip, you would like to explore waterways and landscape features as well as local history and trail information boards, this offers another theme to discover.

Ebhausen can be explored through specific interests: the bell and Widumhaus offer insights into local history, the exhibition focuses on life in earlier times, and the trails highlight their own themes, including history, timber rafting and nature. The routes described vary in both length and subject matter, which can help you choose the focus of your stay and the right holiday apartment in Ebhausen.
