Culture and History

The Eglise Saint-Martin combines architectural history with sacred furnishings: the church was built between 1681 and 1686. Its neoclassical high altarpiece features a painting of Saint Martin, while a bas-relief of the Last Supper is mounted on the altar mensa. Guided tours are offered for individuals and groups.

Further evidence of the past is concentrated in various parts of the area. The interior paintings of the Chapelle-Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel have been restored. The Ferme de Villarivon is partially protected as a historic monument. Its monumental façade features two rows of false windows and Italianate decoration associated with the style popular in Turin around 1850. From the 18th century onwards, a notable family began transforming the Ferme de Villarivon through its architectural design as an expression of its social success.

In the hamlet of Picolard, St Anthony's Chapel dates from 1702. Inside, there is a Baroque altarpiece with typical iconography. The chapel is also located along the “Chemins du Baroque” sightseeing route.

Landscape

The hamlet of Picolard lies at 1,250 m on the hillside terrace of the Versant du Soleil. From there, views extend over the ski resorts of Les Arcs, Montchavin-les-Coches, La Plagne and La Rosière, as well as the Col de la Madeleine and Mont Pourri.

Trails and Art

In the hamlet of Chevrière in Les Chapelles, Art Espace Chevrière is located above the Tarentaise Valley, with views of the Vanoise Massif. The art gallery opened in 2017 and exhibits works by the sculptor and painter Bruno Barbieri, the sculptor Yannick Chirat and the photographer Pierre Bottex.

The “Les Hameaux du Soleil” route is signposted with blue markings. Shortly after the village of Bellentre, it follows a greenway that leads to Aime.
