Jarsy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The circular trail to the Chapelle de la Lézine is very easy, 2.3 km long, takes 1 hour, and includes 67 m of ascent and 52 m of descent. It starts and ends at the church car park in Jarsy. Anyone choosing Jarsy as a place to stay will want to rent a holiday apartment there.

Culture

The Chapelle de la Lézine was built in 1665, completely rebuilt in 2015 by an association, and is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. It is open and can be visited freely. There are information boards and picnic tables at the site.

The church in Jarsy was built in 1867 according to plans by the architect Joseph-Samuel Revel. It is the largest church in the Bauges and is therefore often referred to as the “Cathedral of the Bauges”.

The village of Jarsy has a preserved settlement structure with an undeveloped central area, documented since 1730 by the Mappe Sarde, the first European cadastre. Gardens enclosed by stone walls are a characteristic feature of the village.

Hiking Trails

La boucle d’Orgeval is a moderately difficult circular trail that takes 5 hours and is 11.5 km long, with 916 m of ascent and 914 m of descent. The trail runs entirely through the Bauges National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve, leading to the Orgeval mountain pastures and the viewpoint at Col d’Orgeval. From there, the peaks of the Massif des Bauges and the Massif des Bornes can be seen.

The first stage of the GRP Tour de l’Arcalod leads from the village of Jarsy via the remote hamlet of Très Roche through the wooded Bellevaux Valley, characterized by pastureland, to the Refuge de Coutarse. It provides access to the Hautes-Bauges and, in particular, to the Bauges National Hunting and Wildlife Reserve in the Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges.

The Jarsy–Aillon section of the GRP Tour des Bauges runs predominantly through forests and passes through beautiful beech and fir forests. The trail to the Pointe de la Fougère crosses the Chéran on a bridge; the mountain stream rises at the far end of the Bellevaux Valley.

Getting There

Jarsy can be reached from Le Châtelard or from the Col du Frêne via the D911 to Ecole and then via the D60b to the village centre.

The Chalet Refuge de Coutarse offers lunch, a culinary break, or overnight accommodation from May to October. The Chalet Refuge de Coutarse in Jarsy can only be reached on foot from the Nant Fourchu car park in École-en-Bauges; the ascent takes 2 hours and includes 600 metres of elevation gain.

Local Highlights

At the mountain cheese dairy at the summit of the route to the Croix d’Allant, cheese is sold directly during the summer.
