Gerbaix: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The 6.7 km La Pierre des Millières circular hike begins in Gerbaix. In the uplands of Gerbaix, it passes through meadows, hamlets and forests; its highlight is a small panoramic summit on a rock with a geologically mysterious composition.

Hiking

Gerbaix has walking circuits that are connected to the long-distance hiking trails GR65 and GR9 and lead through the hamlets of Le Vivier and La Lattaz. Several hiking trails west of Gerbaix pass through the Chevenières Forest. Also west of Gerbaix, several hiking trails lead to the Col de la Lattaz.

Nature

The Type II ZNIEFF Chaînon du Mont Tournier extends largely across the western part of Gerbaix. The Chaînon du Mont Tournier forms an ecological corridor between the subalpine massifs and the Jura arc.

Northeast of Gerbaix, the Marais des Grands Champs lies on the border with the municipality of Marcieux. The Marais des Grands Champs is part of the Natura 2000 network and is managed as a wetland under a management plan. It belongs to the alkaline marshes; these marsh landscapes feature diverse habitats and high floristic diversity.

The open, agriculturally shaped landscapes of Gerbaix offer views of the Épine range and the Chartreuse massif. Gerbaix and the neighbouring municipality of Sainte-Marie-d’Alvey jointly have a viewpoint and a rest area. Around Gerbaix, the Belvédère de Gerbaix offers a beautiful view of the Avant-Pays Savoyard.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Georges features visible masonry, a bell tower and stained-glass windows. West of Gerbaix, near Les Brest, lie the ruins of the Château de Gerbaix at an altitude of 680 m. The ruins include several concentric rings of fortifications; the outermost and most recent ring is flanked by semicircular towers. The Château de Gerbaix is said to have been mentioned since the beginning of the 13th century.
