Culture and History

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary in the Church of Saint-Genest in Vendranges contains the altar and altarpiece of the Virgin Mary. The altar and altarpiece of the Virgin Mary are listed as protected objects and date from the first half of the 17th century.

Vendranges was fortified in the Middle Ages. The Church of Saint-Genest was rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century. A tower attached to its façade is a characteristic feature of Vendranges. Saint Genest has long been venerated in Vendranges; his name has been associated with the parish since the 12th century.

In the 17th century, pilgrims came to Vendranges from all the provinces to ask Saint Genest to cure them of gout and sciatica. They went to a spring dedicated to the saint that was considered miraculous.

Geographical Setting

The former RN82, known as the Route bleue, runs through Vendranges. On Place Claude Nougaro at the entrance to the village, there is parking for 20 vehicles. There is a stopping point at the summit of Vendranges' historic ascent.

Landscape

The Circuit de la Pierre des 4 Curés is an 11-kilometre, three-hour hiking trail. It passes through forests, green meadows and along bodies of water and is suitable for beginners.

Events

The Foire de la Saint Barnabé takes place every year on 11 June; travelling fair vendors set up stalls in the village streets. It has existed since the 15th century and is also known as the foire aux pillots.

Since 2024, Vendranges has been an Vintage Vehicle Welcome Village of the FFVE. The market in Vendranges takes place in 2026 on Fridays from 5 to 6 p.m.
