Culture
The Croix de la Conche is a 16th-century cross and marks the meeting point of four former lordships.
The largest bell in the church tower, Anne Marie Sauveterre, is listed as a historic monument and dates from June 1617.
The Maison des Traditions was built around 1750 and is typical of the gallery houses of Forez. It traces the entire history of the village and also displays the workshops of former craftsmen, including those of a blacksmith and a clog maker. From May to September, the Maison des Traditions is open to the public free of charge.
Landscape
At the Belvédère de la Sauveté, there is an orientation table that was inaugurated in 1973. The viewpoint offers a panorama over the Monts de la Madeleine, with the Château des Cornes d’Urfé; the Bois Noirs, with the Notre-Dame de l’Hermitage monastery; the Monts du Forez, with the radar installations at Pierre-sur-Haute, the highest point in the département at 1,634 m; the Monts du Lyonnais, with the Tour Matagrin; the Plateau de Neulise; and the Plaine du Forez. In clear weather, the Alps can also be seen.
Routes
The La Vallée de l’Aix hike is a difficult 15-km circular hike starting from Saint-Martin-la-Sauveté and takes approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes. It leads from the panorama of La Sauveté to the wooded banks of the Aix gorges.
Route No. 24, “Place du Coin”, is an 8-km circular route with 130 m of elevation gain and starts in Saint-Martin-la-Sauveté.
The route to the Cornes d’Urfé starts in Vassauges and leads at an altitude of over 900 m to the Château des Cornes d’Urfé.
