Trails and Water

The GR de Pays Les Fours à Poix is a 62-kilometre, moderately challenging hiking trail with a section in Leignecq. This section passes through the fortifications, through a gate and up a stone staircase to Leignecq Church. After leaving the centre of Leignecq, the trail also passes near the Chapelle Saint-Roch-et-Saint-Antoine.

The Chemin de la Poix is a 13-kilometre circular hiking trail in Merle-Leignec that begins at the church square in the Bourg de Leignecq. The 14-kilometre Circuit du Saut du Bezan is a circular walking trail starting in Merle-Leignec. It leads to a remarkable natural site where the Andrable and Bezan rivers converge.

The Circuit du plan d'eau leads from the medieval centre of Leignecq via the GR3 to the municipality's lake. Leignecq Lake covers 4.5 hectares dedicated to fishing, with a path around the lake.

Culture and History

The base of Leignecq's keep dates from the 11th century. Leignecq's keep has sides measuring 8 metres and is 25 metres high. The former keep of Leignecq was converted into a bell tower in 1867.

The Chapelle Saint-Roch-et-Saint-Antoine was built in 1889 and renovated from 1997 to 2003. The parish church, “Église paroissiale de l'Immaculée Conception”, in Leignecq includes a construction phase dating from 1871. Inside, carved scrolls between water leaves form a list of benefactors.

Landscape

Distinctive landscape features on the southern edge of the Monts du Forez include numerous pine forests, Leignecq Lake and the warm hues of the granite used in the built heritage.
