Culture

The Musée de la Grande Chartreuse is located in La Correrie, in a former place of residence of the Carthusian monks. It presents Carthusian monasteries across Europe and their characteristic architecture, and provides information about the daily lives of the Carthusians as well as their history from Bruno of Cologne to the present day. The museum grounds are the starting point for numerous hikes.

In 1084, Bruno of Cologne settled in Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse and founded a “desert” there with his six companions.

The Musée Arcabas en Chartreuse is located in the church of Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse in Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse. It comprises 111 paintings, stained-glass windows, sculptures and other furnishings, and is considered one of the outstanding works of 20th-century sacred art.
