Nature

The Gorges du Bret are fossil gorges that today provide access from the Voironnais region to the first foothills of the Chartreuse massif. In the Gorges du Bret, the water of the Fontaine du Vieil Homme emerges from the rock as a small karst spring and forms a vaulted structure there.

The summit of Mollard de la Chaleur is located in the vicinity of Saint-Julien-de-Raz. The surrounding area also includes the summit of Pic de la Grande Aiguille, the summit of Rocher de Chalves and the mountain of Baracuchet.

Culture and History

The pulpit has been listed as a protected movable cultural heritage object since 26 January 2001 under protection order no. 2001.544. It is located in the nave of the church of Saint-Julien-de-Raz and features five panels with low-relief carvings of gilded foliage on a green background.

The Chapelle du Saquet is a neo-Gothic chapel on a narrow, wooded terrace south of the town, from where it overlooks the town. At the site of the former castle, the layout of the fortifications and a cistern have been preserved; a depression suggests the presence of a corner tower.

The castle was built by the Count of Savoy at an unknown date on the border between Savoy and Dauphiné, in order to monitor the Voreppe cluse and the ducal castle there. The Monastère Notre-Dame de Chalais is located in the vicinity of Saint-Julien-de-Raz. The historic site of the Monastère de la Grande Chartreuse is also nearby. The Château de Maupertuis is located in the wider regional surroundings of Saint-Julien-de-Raz.
