Vallée Bleue is a diverse leisure area on the banks of the Rhône, set in a remarkable natural landscape. Montalieu-Vercieu borders the Rhône. Nature and activities

The Chemin de Fer du Haut-Rhône offers an approximately one-hour open-air journey between Montalieu Vallée and the bridge at Sault-Brénaz. The range of activities also includes tourist train rides and Cyclo-Draisines, also known as Vélorails. The Vélorail or Cyclo-Draisine ride passes through the forest and then along the Rhône, and lasts between one and one and a half hours.

Culture and history

The church of Montalieu was built in 1833 from local stone and is dedicated to Saint Louis. It has old stained-glass windows, including a choir window depicting the King of France.

The Espace Ninon Vallin is dedicated to culture and leisure and commemorates, through its name, a singer born in Montalieu-Vercieu. The Lavoir du Luiron washhouse is connected to a short watercourse that feeds the Furon; the Furon is a tributary of the Rhône. The Maison de la Pierre au Ciment presents the stones of the region, the history of technical processes, and the people who worked with this material in the past and continue to do so today.

Montalieu-Vercieu developed around the extraction of Pierre de Villebois and along the Rhône.
