La Motte-D'aveillans: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

La Mine Image is located a few hundred metres from La Motte-d’Aveillans’s tourist railway station. This historic site is thus connected with a museum whose exhibition documents the long history of coal mining on the Matheysin Plateau.

Nature

At an altitude of 1,400 metres, the Arboretum de Combe Noire has three forest circular trails where several tree species can be discovered. The Arboretum de Combe Noire is accessible to wheelchair users and pushchairs and was created through the collaboration of schoolchildren and children with disabilities.

Every summer, the Alpage du Senépi is home to France’s largest organised mountain pasture, with almost 1,000 heifers.

Hiking

The “A Rebrousse Temps” hiking trail is a family-friendly circular route accessible to all age groups, inviting visitors to discover the past of the Les Signaraux site. The hike to the Pierre Percée starts in La Motte-d’Aveillans and leads to a natural arch on Creys Hill, considered one of the seven wonders of the Dauphiné; from there, it offers a panorama over the entire Matheysine.

The name Pierre Merlière derives from the French expression “pierre meulière” for millstone.

Winter Sports

The Domaine des Signaraux offers alpine skiing on four slopes with a drag lift. There are also 26 km of cross-country ski trails, three snowshoeing routes, an area for snowkiting and a toboggan run for children.
