Culture

Grenay’s present-day church was built in 1862. The church has a Latin-cross floor plan and features a single-nave body with three bays. Its bell tower contains three bells.

The Chemin des Fontaines includes two well-preserved stone arches as well as a guard hut made of dressed stones. The enclosed springs along the Chemin des Fontaines still flow out through the stone arches. Grenay has been associated with the Sainte-Marie de Poulieu priory since the Middle Ages and still preserves the appearance of a 17th-century village to this day.

Landscape

The village of Grenay lies on a hill at an average elevation of 300 metres. Grenay has numerous erratic boulders transported there by glaciers. According to the geologist Penck, Grenay has a moraine amphitheatre. Pierre Jacques is considered the most significant of the erratic boulders in Grenay.

Paths and Nature

Several footpaths run through the Forêt de Ballier for more than 7 kilometres. The Bois de Montmoiron contains moraine blocks.
