Culture and History
Domène is home to a Benedictine priory dating back to the agricultural and religious period around the year 1000. The former priory church of the Benedictine priory in Domène is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. At the end of the 19th century, the discovery of “houille blanche”, meaning the use of hydropower, changed the historical context of Domène in the region.

Domène’s weekly open-air market was established in 1869 and has taken place every Thursday morning since then in the town centre at Place Stalingrad, in front of the town hall; Place Stalingrad is also called Place de la Mairie, an average of 65 vendors take part, and additional stalls are located at Place de l’église. The Sunday “Petit marché” also takes place at Place Stalingrad and includes a few food stalls.
Swimming and Activities
The Coubertin outdoor swimming pool in Domène has two pools and an outdoor paddling pool surrounded by lawns and is open only in summer. During the summer season, swimming at the Coubertin outdoor pool is continuously supervised by state-qualified lifeguards. In July and August, water aerobics classes are regularly held for senior citizens and for a wider audience.

Bus route C9 connects the centre of Domène with Place de Verdun in Grenoble, travelling via the motorway. Bus route G2 connects Bernin with Inovallée in Meylan via Domène and serves five stops in Domène: Les Arnauds, René Cassin, Mairie, Le Prieuré and Les Vernes.
