Culture

The Espace York Mallory commemorates the disappearance of the British Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory in a plane crash over the Rivier d’Allemond in November 1944.

Under Louis XIII and Louis XIV, mining activities took place in Allemond. The village was home to royal foundries, where mainly silver, lead and copper ore from the local mines was smelted.

The York Mallory hike from the Rivier d’Allemond leads to the site of the plane crash of 14 November 1944 above the hamlet. It is 7.2 km long, takes around four and a half hours and is rated as moderately difficult.

The Eau d’Olle Express takes visitors from Allemond to the Oz 3300 station in eight minutes. In summer, the Eau d’Olle Express provides access to hiking trails, mountain bike routes, bike parks and mountain railways in the Espace Alpe d’Huez, without having to drive between the valley and the stations.

The Voie verte runs from Allemond via Le Bourg-d’Oisans to Venosc and connects six valleys in Oisans. It allows cyclists to avoid the departmental road.

Old Allemond, centred around the church, preserves the traditional character of the villages of Oisans.
