Nature
The hike to Pointe de Tréchauffé is moderately difficult and takes three hours. The outward and return route covers 3.8 kilometres and includes 375 metres of ascent and descent each way. It leads through the forest to a summit overlooking Lake Geneva, the peaks of the Vallée d’Aulps and the Swiss Jura.
From La Forclaz, the hiking trails of the Vallée d’Aulps and the Vallée d’Abondance are easily accessible. The Montée de Tréchauffé cycling route leads over the Col du Grand Taillet and up steep hairpin bends to a viewpoint; its average gradient is 6.5 per cent.
Landscape
At an altitude of 1,288 metres, the Belvédère de Tréchauffé offers views of the Plateau de Gavot, Lake Geneva and the Jura mountain range. It is classified as a geosite of the Chablais UNESCO Global Geopark. From the Alpage de Tréchauffé, views extend over Lake Geneva, the Swiss Alps, Jotty and the Dranse gorges.
When there is snow, the Belvédère de Tréchauffé can be reached in winter on snowshoes from the car park at the Col du Grand Taillet; the route is 3 kilometres long and has 200 metres of elevation gain. For safety reasons, the panoramic road from La Forclaz to the Alpage de Tréchauffé is closed from 15 November to 31 March.
Cuisine
The Chèvrerie du Tréchauffé gives visitors the opportunity to meet its goats. Visitors can also discover goat’s cheese and Savoyard specialities there. The Le Bois du Cornet inn, centrally located in the village, serves regional cuisine.
Culture
The village church of La Forclaz dates from the 19th century and has an onion dome typical of Savoyard architecture.
Events
The “Tréchau'fête” includes music, traditional refreshments, an open-air mass, children’s workshops and a presentation of mountain professions. The second Alpage-Fête “La Tréchau'fête” was held at the Alpage de Tréchauffé in La Forclaz.
