Culture and history

The fortified village of Rousset-les-Vignes developed in the Middle Ages from a Cluniac priory probably dating from the 12th century. The priory has a remarkable Renaissance façade with mullioned windows.

Anyone planning a stay in Rousset-les-Vignes will want to rent a holiday apartment for this purpose.

The Église Saint-Mayeul belonged to a Benedictine priory dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. Its façade has been partially protected as a historic monument by an entry dated 17 July 1926. The church also has a bell gable with three arches, probably dating from the 16th century.

Some sections of the fortification wall’s semicircular towers have been preserved. The fortified church in Rousset-les-Vignes dates back in its origins to the 12th century. The feudal castle of Rousset-les-Vignes is considered to be a 14th-century structure.

Landscape and paths

The landscape around the village is characterised by vineyard plots, although overall it is a mixed agricultural landscape. From Rousset-les-Vignes, there is a view of Mont Ventoux.

The 90-kilometre Route de l’Olivier also passes through Rousset-les-Vignes. It can be explored by car, bicycle or motorbike.

A hike from Rousset-les-Vignes leads to the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir. The oldest part of the chapel is probably the Romanesque choir dating from the 12th century; the path there is steep and slippery.

Wine and olive oil

The Côtes du Rhône Villages Rousset-les-Vignes appellation extends exclusively across the municipality of Rousset-les-Vignes in the Drôme département. Domaine Les Marcels offers tastings of natural and flavoured olive oils all year round in its boutique on the estate. The oil mill of Domaine Les Marcels can only be visited during the production season.

In summer, Domaine de La Bouvaude offers the 2-kilometre-long night-time spectacle “Entre Vignes et Lumières”.
