Le Poët-en-Percip can also be reached on foot from the Col de la Bohémienne via the GR 91. Climbing the Montagne des Tunes on the GRP des Baronnies provençales offers views of the upper Ouvèze Valley, the Charuis gorges to the north, the Aulan gorges and the Toulourenc Valley to the south, as well as Mont Ventoux.

The “De Percipia à Mévolhon” route passes through Le Poët-en-Percip, which is situated at an altitude of around 1,000 m. At this altitude, the wind blows between the Montagne de la Loube and the Montagne de la Bohémienne.

The “Le Poët” route leads to the village of Le Poët-en-Percip; at point 11, at the Place du Tilleul at kilometre 21.4 and an altitude of 1,013 m, it continues onto the GR 91.

History and culture

The name “Le Poët” has been documented since 1060 in the form “Poietum” and derives from the Latin “podium”, meaning “hill”.

The name element “en-Percip” goes back to Domina Percipia from the Mévouillon family, a legendary 11th-century castle lord who had owned the region and settled in the village, among other places. In 1266, Le Poët was named “en-Percip” in her honour.
