Hiking and Trails
There are three hiking routes in Lachau, all of which start in the village. The “LACHAU – Tour du Riable” hiking route is an 11.4 km circular hike with a duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes and a moderate level of difficulty.
The Tour du Riable is located at an altitude of 1,190 m and offers a direct view of the villages in the upper Méouge Valley. The final approach to the Tour du Riable is on foot via a narrow path; from the village, a hiking trail leads there past Notre-Dame de Calma.
Culture and History
The Tour du Riable is the keep of a fortified complex (castrum) built towards the end of the 12th century. The Château de Lachau is currently entirely privately owned and cannot be visited.
Notre-Dame de Calma is a Romanesque church that was classified as a historic monument in 1875. It is the surviving remains of a medieval monastery or an important rural priory built in the early 13th century. Notre-Dame de Calma is currently used for cultural events, including exhibitions and concerts, as well as for the traditional mass on 15 August.
Lachau is also home to a Gallo-Roman sanctuary; its archaeological finds are kept in the museum in Gap.
Market and Local Events
The Lachau producers’ market takes place year-round every Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is primarily a market for local producers.
Nature and Connections
During harsh winters, the waterfall at Marlaric offers an impressive display of ice; the stream then carries particularly icy water.
Line 39 connects Lachau with Buis-les-Baronnies, Nyons and Vaison-la-Romaine.
