Culture and history

After falling into ruin, the Vieux Village de La Laupie was rebuilt house by house from 1962–1963 onward.

The Chapelle Saint-Michel was built in the 12th century on a feudal hill outside the fortified old village. It belonged to a priory dependent on Cruas in Vivarais. Inside, it preserves original elements, particularly the foundations of the choir and the side arcades of the first two bays of the nave.

The Chapelle Saint-Jacques has been documented in archives since the beginning of the 18th century and is probably somewhat older. In 2011, it was restored with the Fondation du Patrimoine label.

The historic site of Abbaye Sainte-Anne de Bonlieu-sur-Roubion is located in the immediate vicinity of La Laupie. The historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bon Secours and the Abbatiale Sainte-Marie de Cruas monastery are located in the vicinity of La Laupie. In the wider regional area lies the ancient site of Alba-la-Romaine (Ardèche, France) -- Théâtre gallo-romain.

Landscape

The mountain Peygrand and the mountain Montpourchier are located in the vicinity of La Laupie. In the wider regional area lie the mountain Serre Pelé and the mountain Mont Rachas.

Trails

The circular trail Sur le chemin de Borne Rousse is 6.68 kilometres long, moderately difficult, includes 280 metres of elevation gain and takes 2 hours and 10 minutes. It offers nature and beautiful views and brings the former border between La Laupie, Condillac and Marsanne to life. It is signposted with yellow PR markings. The visitor address given is “Parking de chasse, 26740 La Laupie”.

The short circular trail O vieux village conveys an impression of medieval life through the restored architectural heritage.
