Nature

The path through the Vallon des Carmes runs along rivers and cascades, including the Gué du Fauvery and the Cascade des Carmes. The Vallon des Carmes is a 30-hectare natural area on the heights of Barjols. It was transformed into a riverside walking trail along the Fauvery River and offers walks, historical discoveries and swimming.
The Vallon des Carmes can only be accessed on foot from the Crouchet car park. The path is approximately 1 km long and takes about 15 minutes. The Quartier des Tanneries district is also home to the Cascade du Fauvery, a small waterfall.
Culture and History
The Tanneries in Barjols can be viewed from the outside all year round; visits to the artists’ studios are possible by appointment. The Quartier des Tanneries district developed from the town’s formerly important leather-tanning industry into studios for contemporary artists.
The Quartier du Réal is the oldest district of Barjols. The town’s first tanning vats, as well as oil and grain mills and fulling mills for cloth, have been preserved there. The Église collégiale Notre-Dame, also called the collégiale Saint-Marcel, is also located in Barjols.
Traditions
Barjols’ leatherworking tradition is celebrated every year at the Foire du Cuir on the second weekend of August. Traditional Bugades are also still occasionally practised in Barjols.
At the annual Saint-Marcel celebration in Barjols, religious services in the Collégiale are followed by the “Dance of the Tripettes”.
