Culture and History
The religious architecture of Sammarçolles includes the Église Saint-Pierre-Saint-Martial. It is a Romanesque church and probably dates back to the 12th century.
The chapel of the Montault de Isles family was founded as a funerary chapel for members of the Montault de Isles family. Its foundation stone was laid by Prince Godefroi de la Tour d’Auvergne on 26 April 1855.
The Notre-Dame de Crué chapel is of Romanesque origin. The chapel’s altar stone dates from the 18th century and was listed as a protected historic object on 21 June 2007. The small Romanesque chapel, dedicated to Saint Radegund, has a bell gable known as a “bretèche”.
The Château de la Grande Jaille in Sammarçolles dates back to the 13th century, when it was founded by the de La Jaille family. The Renaissance château has moats and a gate pavilion with decorative échauguettes. It has been classified as a Monument historique since 1928; the Château de la Grande Jaille is private property.
