Nature

The Circuit des étangs circular trail is 6 km long; the stated walking time is 2 hours. It follows the shores of two ponds: one has been developed as a leisure area, while the other is used for fishing. A walking trail leads around the pond and through a recently created wetland and the surrounding springs. The Base de plein-air de La Puye is located on the Petit Étang near the Chapelle des Filles de la Croix. It includes large green spaces, children's play areas, a boules court and picnic tables. The outdoor recreation centre is accessible year-round; swimming is possible in summer during supervised hours.

Access to the Source de Saint Bonifet is permitted despite its location on private property, provided that the tranquillity of the site is respected.

History

Along the Ligne Acadienne, a walk passes preserved buildings that commemorate La Puye's reception of Acadian exiles in 1773. The Church of Saint-Hilaire de La Puye dates from the 11th century and was remodelled in the 16th and 18th centuries. It has been listed in the inventory of historic monuments since 2002. It is also connected with the history of the Acadian community in Poitou and the Ligne Acadienne between La Puye and Archigny.

The listed building of the Fontaine aux Dames preserves Romanesque architectural elements from the former priory church, including carved corbels.

The La Puye spiritual centre welcomes sisters from all over the world, as well as religious and non-religious people seeking peace and relaxation. Individuals or groups can stay there with or without spiritual guidance.

The Maison-Mère des Filles de la Croix is open to anyone seeking silence, beauty and inner reflection. The convent chapel of the Filles de la Croix stands on the site of a former Fontevrist priory and is particularly noteworthy for the quality of its vaults and stained-glass windows.
