Champagné-Saint-Hilaire: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Champagné-Saint-Hilaire is located on the River Clain. The “Les Trois Fontaines” recreational area covers 15 hectares of natural landscape and is situated in a wooded part of Champagné-Saint-Hilaire classified as a ZNIEFF.
Those who combine a stay in Champagné-Saint-Hilaire with the “Les Trois Fontaines” natural area may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature
“Le Patural des Chiens” has been classified as a ZNIEFF since 1989 because of its aquatic plants and orchids. The educational trail there provides information on the pond, the wetland, the orchid meadow and the heather moorland through nine information panels. The route is an easy 2.6 km hike lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Culture
The Church of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais has a 12th-century portal. Its features also include “La Vierge à l'enfant (Madone)”, a 70 cm-high wooden statue from the 17th century. The “Pierre aux quatre divinités” is the best-preserved evidence of the Gallo-Roman presence in the area of Champagné-Saint-Hilaire. The “Sur les pas d’André Léo” walking trail also connects the route with literature: along the way, information panels display excerpts from “Un mariage scandaleux”.
Activities
The Écuries du Moulin de Chaume offer horseback and pony rides as well as carriage rides. Haras Prestige Events offers guided walks with a Poitou donkey loaded with panniers. Maps of 46 hiking routes are available from the Champagné-Saint-Hilaire town hall and the Gençay canton tourist office.
