The remains of the Château de Vermette have been preserved in La Chapelle-Gaudin. By decree of 29 December 1941, they were listed as a historic monument. The main construction phase of the Château de Vermette, whose remains have been preserved in La Chapelle-Gaudin, dates back to the 15th century. The surviving remains include a three-sided central residential building and a decorated door with a shallow arch.

The name of the locality itself is also documented early on: La Chapelle-Gaudin (Capella Gaudini) appears in written sources dating from 1166.
