Culture

The Church of Saint-Pierre has a Gothic portal, as well as a Romanesque nave and a Romanesque bell tower dating from the 12th century. The bell tower and the church bell were classified as historic monuments in 1903. The church also has 19th-century stained-glass windows by the priest and glassmaker Constant-Auguste Boinot.

History

After a fifteen-day siege in 1242, the walls of Frontenay were demolished; the town was subsequently called Frontenay-l’Abattu.

The Fontaine de la Mariée is located in the La Laiterie district. In the past, newlyweds visited it on their wedding day; this tradition appears to have been abandoned in the 1930s.

The Circuit des fontaines includes the Grande Fontaine, the Fontaine d’Ayron and the Bief Chabot. Every spring, a race takes place around the stops on the Circuit des fontaines.

A walk in the form of a treasure hunt has been proposed for Frontenay-Rohan-Rohan, allowing visitors to discover the village. The treasure-hunt route takes about an hour and is 2.3 kilometres long. It includes eight stops and leads to the so-called “chantepleures”.
