Nature

The Renaudie stream, which flows into the Tardoire, cuts through granite and schist rock, forming a relatively narrow gorge that has remained completely untouched by nature.

The Vallée de la Renaudie nature reserve stretches for 6 km along the river through the municipalities of Montbron, Écuras and Rouzède.

Because limestone and granite soils meet here, it encompasses a diverse mosaic of special habitats.

Culture

Notre-Dame de Rouzède was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. A second nave with three bays was added to its southern side in the 15th century.

An 18th-century altarpiece occupies the entire rear wall of Notre-Dame de Rouzède. The church contains 13th-century baptismal fonts made of carved stone, which have been protected as a historic monument since 1949.

The painting of Saint Roch in Notre-Dame de Rouzède is dated 1845 and signed “Petiot à Angoulême”. The church of Notre-Dame in Rouzède also contains a 17th-century work of folk art.

Activities

The Golf international de La Prèze offers an 18-hole championship course. It spans an area of more than 100 hectares across the municipalities of Écuras and Rouzède.
