The construction history of Château d'Ardenne spans the 12th to the 18th century.
The parts of Château d'Ardenne protected by decree of 29 December 1978 include the façades and roofs, the large south terrace with balustrade, the grand staircase with wrought-iron railing, and the spiral staircase in the north-western tower.
The Église Saint-Hippolyte in Moulidars is a 12th-century church with a Romanesque façade.
The Romanesque Église Saint-Hippolyte was partially destroyed by a fire and rebuilt in the 15th century.
Its façade features arcades on the ground floor and a cornice of small arcades; the small arcades support the upper storey. In 1912, the Romanesque façade of the Église Saint-Hippolyte was declared a historic monument.
Geographical Setting
The Pigeonnier d'Ardenne is located in the municipality of Moulidars in the Charente department, approximately 300 metres north of the village centre and 100 metres from Château d'Ardenne. It formerly belonged to this château.
The highest point in Moulidars is at an altitude of 103 metres and overlooks the Charente valley and the Fins Bois vineyards.
Events
Founded in 2003, the Association du Pigeonnier d'Ardenne works to preserve this cultural heritage and organises cultural activities to introduce the Pigeonnier to a wide audience.
Festi-ferme is a two-day festival in a hamlet of Moulidars, usually held in July. The programme includes performances, meetings, debates, conferences and film screenings.
Local associations organise guinguettes from June to July beneath the trees of La Garenne municipal park.
The 2026 edition of the Trail La Montliardaise is scheduled to take place on 1 November 2026 in Moulidars.
