Culture and history

In Gémozac stands the Église Saint-Pierre, which was classified as a historic monument by decree of 19 November 1910. It is an example of architecture from the 12th to the 15th century. Particularly noteworthy is the southern transept arm with its rare pendentive dome vault.

The Château de Bernessard was listed as a historic monument by decree of 25 September 2012. Its present form dates essentially from the 15th century. The medieval design features moats as well as round towers and blind defensive walls at the corners. The château, located 2 km away, can only be viewed from the outside and offers a permanent exhibition on the history of the estate.

Parts of the Château de la Salle were listed as historic monuments by decree of 12 March 1990. The château has a U-shaped layout and is surrounded by moats with balustrades and stone bridges. It is said to have been built in 1730 by the Chevalier d’Aubeterre, the Seigneur of Gémozac.

Local life

A market takes place in Gémozac on Friday mornings in the square in front of the town hall and on the church square. In addition, La Halte Marché au Domaine Chaillou is a producers’ shop in Gémozac. It sells organic fruit and vegetables from the Domaine, as well as local products such as meat, poultry, dairy products and beverages.

Events

The Hippodrome de Gémozac racecourse hosts four race days in June, July and August.
