Cierzac: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Église Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Cierzac dates from the 12th and 15th centuries. Its façade is designed in a simple Saintongeais Romanesque style and features a single wide portal flanked by two buttresses. The deeply recessed portal has four archivolts; it is also adorned with a cornice band decorated with diamond points, a cornice with corbels, a five-arch arcade, and a bell gable. Inside, the church preserves Romanesque and Gothic elements, including a Romanesque column, the beginnings of Gothic vault ribs, sculpted capitals, and round-arched windows in the choir area. Its bronze bell was cast in 1753 and has been protected as a movable historic monument since 1911.

Culture

The historic villagescape also includes the old washhouse in Cierzac, which was used to rinse laundry after washing, and a nearby play area that invites visitors to relax. The Moulin de Cierzac was converted into a hotel-restaurant over the centuries. The mill channels of the Moulin de Cierzac were constructed by the Romans.

Nature and Hiking

The Natura 2000 site «vallée du Né et ses principaux affluents» – the special protection area FR 5400417 – extends partly across the municipal territory of Cierzac.

The Circuit pédestre N°16 – «La vallée & le moulin» is a signposted 10-km circular hike. The 10-km route «La vallée et le moulin» starts at the church in Cierzac and leads to Germignac.

The 5-km Moulin Enragé circular hike starts at the church in Cierzac. The return route follows the forest eastwards and then follows the Né back to Cierzac.
