Boutenac-Touvent stretches across a very hilly chalk-limestone plateau; to the south lies the Fondevine valley, which opens out towards the Gironde.

Culture

The Lavoir de Font-Pissot is a public washhouse with stone wash basins. It is the only covered washhouse in the Pays Royannais; its spring is said to be of ancient origin.

The Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was built mainly in the 13th century and has preserved its original Gothic architecture with a rectangular floor plan. It probably incorporates reused structural elements from an earlier Romanesque building.

History

Gallo-Roman remains have been found in Boutenac-Touvent. A church already existed here in the 12th century.

The pigeon house was built in 1868 and appears to be a copy of a square dovecote from the Ancien Régime.

Trails

The G.R. 360 long-distance hiking trail passes through Boutenac-Touvent. The Moulin de la Sablière on VTT loop no. 9 has retained its mill mechanism.

Wine

Boutenac-Touvent mainly produces wine associated with Pineau and Cognac.
