Culture

The Church of Saint-Étienne in Brives-sur-Charente was consecrated in 1868 and draws on the Gothic style of the 14th century. It contains a figurative baptismal font dating from the 12th century. The baptismal font is classified as historic furniture and is considered a rare example of 12th-century sculpture and symbolism.

History

Brives-sur-Charente is a stage on the signposted long-distance GR 360 hiking trail. The manor house, or the landowner’s residence, was built in 1824 for Jean Dupuy d’Angeac. The dovecote is hexagonal, built of rendered rubble masonry and covered with a polygonal hipped roof. A distillery was probably established for the Dupuy d’Angeac family in the 1880s.
