Culture

The Église Saint-André is a Romanesque church dating from the end of the 12th century, which presumably originated in the context of the Way of St James. Its portal is surrounded by Corinthian capitals, and the church has preserved most of its original Romanesque walls. By decree of 21 January 1907, it was classified as a historic monument.

Outside the village centre, the Logis de Maine-Moreau stands amid the extensive fields surrounding the village. The estate was built in 1660 and is now preserved only as a ruin. The ruins include a round-arched portal, an octagonal stair tower and a Louis XIII door with pilasters and a triangular pediment. The carved door of the Maine-Moreau estate, crowned by a pediment, has also been preserved. The ruins of the Logis de Maine-Moreau were listed as a historic monument by decree of 22 August 1949.

Roman coins were found near La Forêt along the ancient road from Saintes to Saint-Jean d’Angély.
