History

A rural settlement was established from the Merovingian period onward at the archaeological site on Rue Charles de Gaulle in Achery and continued to develop under the Carolingians. A later fortification at this site probably protected an area of at least 2,200 m² in the 10th or 11th century. The medieval settlement site contains evidence of food storage, food production, craft activities and metalworking. Traces of looms and weaving tools at the archaeological site in Achery also suggest textile production.

The archaeological settlement site in Achery remained inhabited until the 11th century; the population subsequently left the site. The two coins discovered in Achery are associated with Raoul's coin minting in Laon. One of the coins has been identified as a Laon obole of Raoul dating from 923 to 936.

The Église Saint-Martin d'Achery is located on Rue Charles de Gaulle in Achery.
