Château de Tiffauges, a castle in the vicinity of Tiffauges, stands on a rocky promontory at the confluence of the Sèvre Nantaise. The site has been inhabited since Gallo-Roman times; the first construction phase of Château de Tiffauges dates to the 11th and 12th centuries. At its peak, the ring of fortifications was almost 780 metres long and included 18 towers.
