Saint-Denis-du-Payré: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Michel Brosselin National Nature Reserve features a covered observatory with an area of 63 m² and 18 spotting scopes. The observatory is accessed via a 400 m-long raised walkway that can be used in all seasons without special equipment.

As part of “Sundays at the Reserve”, the nature reserve offers birdwatching every first Sunday afternoon of the month, in all seasons. A stork platform in the direction of Les Marzelles enabled the first pair of storks in the Vendée to settle there in 1977. Every year, the Michel Brosselin National Nature Reserve goes through a phase of gradual drying out of its water areas.

Cycling

The cycling route Circuit cyclable les Oiseaux starts at the Place de l'église in Saint-Denis-du-Payré. It is an easy 37.6 km circular route for hybrid bicycles. As a circular route, it is signposted in one direction; the signage consists of wooden posts and green signs with a white symbol.

Hiking

The walking trail Le Bois Gilaud is a 7.2 km circular route with an average duration of 2 hours 30 minutes and starts in Saint-Denis-du-Payré. The trail is accessible year-round, although some sections in the forest can be slippery, especially in winter. Le Bois Gilaud offers panoramic views over the marshland and then leads through woodland.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Denis has been listed in France’s supplementary inventory of historic monuments since 11 June 1991. Some parts of the choir date from 1060. The nave of the Église Saint-Denis was rebuilt on the original foundations in the 17th century.
