Culture

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Flots is a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary and a pilgrimage site intended for sailors. It was designed by Théodore Huchon in the neo-Gothic style and inaugurated on 11 September 1859. The Chapelle Saint-Henri in the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Flots is considered a memorial to the Borgès de Silveira family; their family coat of arms and patron saints are depicted on the stained-glass windows and beneath the altar.

The Pain de Sucre is also one of the town’s maritime landmarks. Madame Lefebvre-Desnouettes had it built in memory of her husband, who died in a shipwreck off the Irish coast on 22 April 1822. The sea mark was intended to help sailors identify the coast. Military remains can be found at Cap de la Hève, including the Batterie de Dollemard, built between 1892 and 1894, and a bunker from the Second World War.

The seaside district of Nice Havrais was laid out by Georges Dufayel between the foot of the Falaise de la Hève and the sea.
