Culture
The Église Saint-Martin in Gommerville is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century and is considered part of the religious heritage. The parish church contains a group of nine stained-glass windows depicting standing saints and religious figures, arranged in pairs in each window. The group of stained-glass windows was donated in the 1870s by the related Mirville, Dupré, Hocquart and Beaunay families, as well as by Abbé Cacquerel. Another special feature of the church is a hidden door.
Gommerville preserves the Ferme et le colombier des Rames as well as the Manoir and the Colombier de Rebomard. The surviving motte féodale is the only remaining part of a former 14th-century castle in Gommerville. This castle belonged to Roger de Rames, a companion of William the Conqueror. A concrete road at the Château de Filières is a relic of the German occupation and was intended to serve as a launch ramp for V1 rockets heading towards London during the Second World War.
Landscape and Trails
The Château de Filières and its park are protected as historic monuments. The two salons and the dining room were classified as a Monument historique by decree of 13 December 1947, while the rest of the château and the park were entered on the register by decree of 31 May 1946.
The Château de Filières lies at the centre of an extensive Clos masure typical of the Pays de Caux, with planted embankments and an avenue known as La Cathédrale. The park was designed by André Le Nôtre. The château also contains an 18th-century Chinese salon with Chinese paintings set into wood panelling. The Château de Filières comprises two bays and an attached wing dating from the reign of Henry IV; the rest comes from the era of Louis XVI.
Visitors can view the restored orangery or discover the restored chapel. Around the Château de Filières, they can stroll through the park among its trees, some of which are several hundred years old.
