Canteleu: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Forêt monumentale is a 4-kilometre-long route in the Forêt domaniale de Roumare state forest in Canteleu, where visitors can discover this remarkable natural landscape. From the same starting point, a 3.5-kilometre-long botanical route leads visitors to discover 32 native forest species.

Nature and exercise

The Forêt de Roumare animal park was established in 1966 and is managed by the French National Forestry Office (Office National des Forêts, ONF). It is used for observing red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar in their forest habitat. Visitor facilities in the Forêt de Roumare also include an arboretum.

Canteleu has numerous footpaths. A 1-kilometre loop of the existing fitness trail has been adapted for people with physical disabilities. The Balade branchée in the Forêt de Roumare combines an escape game with orienteering and includes 16 stations.

The Circuit des 13 chênes is 7.5 kilometres long and starts either at the car park of the Parc Animalier or at the car park of the Mare Terreuse. A 5,500-metre-long cycle path runs along the Seine at La Rive-Dieppedalle in Canteleu.

Paths and orienteering

The Forêt monumentale is free of charge and accessible around the clock, seven days a week. Its paved main route is accessible to wheelchair users and families with pushchairs and provides access to some of the artworks along the route.

The Forêt monumentale is less than 500 metres from the Hôtel de Ville – Jean-Jaurès stop on tram line T3. Bus line 35 connects Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville with Canteleu and stops at the Piscine Aqualoup stop.

The Parcours sportif Ben-Harrati has three orienteering courses: a black, a red and a yellow one. The Cité des Sports Alain-Calmat also has three orienteering courses: a blue, a purple and a green one.

Culture and history

The Pavillon Flaubert is a museum open to visitors, displaying furniture, portraits, busts, a quill pen, an inkpot and other personal items from Gustave Flaubert’s study. The Pavillon Flaubert has been classified as a historic monument since 18 November 1914.

In the 15th century, a Franciscan monastery was established in place of a quarry and was known as the Couvent troglodytique Sainte-Barbe. The Couvent troglodytique Sainte-Barbe was listed as a historic monument in 1995.

The former 18th-century stables were converted into an artistic events venue for the Ferme des 2 Lions in 2018. The Ferme des 2 Lions provides a venue for cultural and artistic events as well as various workshops for artistic practice.

Each station of the Rallyes du Patrimoine in Canteleu is marked with a QR code containing riddles about the town’s history.

Events

The Fête de la Saint-Gorgon takes place on the second weekend of September: on Fridays in Bapeaume and on Saturdays in Parc Arthur-Lefebvre. The Fête de la Saint-Gorgon includes a parade, concerts, performances and family activities.
