In Saint-Maurice-en-Cotentin, the Church of Saint-Maurice preserves a protected tomb slab on the north wall of its nave for Guillaume Cuquemelle and his family, dating from 1613. The church also has a transept arm from the 15th century, which supports a massive, squat bell tower from the 17th century; its sacristy was built in 1725.

Culture and history

The Manoir de la Cour was the centre of the Seigneurie of Saint-Maurice. At the same time, it preserves features of flamboyant Gothic architecture, including profiled windows with tracery and a projecting corner tower with four loopholes. The Hôtel Fauvel is a 16th-century building in which a monumental fireplace and two doors with curved lintels have been preserved.

The Fontaine du Bienheureux Thomas Hélye was inaugurated on 28 May 1860. In 1977, a celebration for Blessed Thomas Hélye was scheduled for the Sunday closest to 19 October. It includes a mass in the church, the veneration of the relics and a procession to the Fontaine du Bienheureux.

The monument to the 9th US Infantry Division commemorates 14 American soldiers and officers who were killed nearby on 17 June 1944. It stands on the D42 between the Fierville mill and the centre of Saint-Maurice.

Trails and landscape

The Côte des Isles hiking guide includes the Circuit du bouilleur de cru circular route, which begins in Saint-Maurice-en-Cotentin. The Circuit du bouilleur de cru is an easy 17.3-kilometre walk through the rural surroundings, with a walking time of approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes. It follows shady paths along washhouses, regionally typical houses and stone walls.

The stream La Grise, also known as Le Gris, rises near Hôtel-au-Mière in Saint-Maurice-en-Cotentin. The coastal river Gerfleur flows through Saint-Maurice-en-Cotentin and then empties into the Havre de Carteret.
