History

The fighting for the liberation of Saint-Jean-de-Daye began on 15 June 1944 with bombing and artillery fire. On 7 July 1944, the 120th Infantry Regiment of the US 30th Division entered the village of Saint-Jean-de-Daye from the south.

The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Saint-Jean-de-Daye dates from the 18th century and was severely damaged during the liberation. It was restored under the supervision of the architects André Martinet and Yves Maublanc. The Church of Notre-Dame in Saint-Jean-de-Daye was transferred to the Saint-Fromond priory for pastoral care in 1251 by Robert, Pierre and Enguerrand du Hommet.
