Saint-Germain-Le-Gaillard: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Germain houses a seated Madonna and Child, a depiction of the education of Mary, and Saint Martha with the Tarasque. The Romanesque pillars with capitals supporting the bell tower date from the 12th century. The choir and the north chapel may date from the 15th century; the arcades on the north side could be attributed to the Early Gothic style of the 13th century.

Culture and history

The Prieuré Sainte-Marguerite de Monacqueville has been documented since 1204. The monks remained there until 1712; a chapel and a cemetery were also established at the priory.

The present-day Manoir de Bunehou was built from the 14th century onwards and extensively remodelled during the Renaissance. The fief of Bunehou has been documented since at least the 12th century. The manor house contains restored rooms.

The Manoir du But lies on the slope of a hill by the But River, while its present-day buildings date from after the 16th century. L’Atelier très sage is located in a former mill in Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard.

Paths and landscape

The Moulin de Bunehou is a watermill in the Scye valley. From the garden of the Manoir de Bunehou, visitors can look across the surrounding landscape towards extensive ponds and a wooded hill. The garden is inspired by an English garden. In summer, it was open for free visits; admission was €3. 

Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard has a relatively extensive network of signposted paths. The Croix aux Bourdons, also known as the Croix des Prés aux bourdons, stands on a pilgrimage route near the hamlet of ès Conte.
