Cérences: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Notre-Dame church in Cérences has an original nave dating from the early 13th century and a stone-vaulted choir dating from the early 14th century. Those choosing Cérences as a travel destination can combine their stay with the desire to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
The Lavoir de l'Hôtel Roy washhouse in Cérences dates from 1924. It has two basins and is surrounded by a covered gallery with a gabled roof. At the same time, it served as a social meeting place: women beat, rubbed, rinsed and wrung out their laundry at the basins while chatting.
The small statue of Notre-Dame de Cérences can still be seen in the church today. Jehan du Bois, knight of Pirou, became Lord of Cérences through his marriage to Jeanne de Carbonnel, the heiress of a local feudal lord, and on that occasion donated the statue to the parish.
Trails and Village Walks
The hikers' rest area near the washhouse on the road to Ver has picnic tables and public toilets. In Cérences, visitors can also take part in a guided, commentary-filled walk through the village with local village guides.
La Vallée de la Chaussée is an easy 4.5-kilometre hike lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The circular trail is considered an easy family hike through the bocage landscape and valleys of Cérences. It starts at the washhouse and runs between waterways and sunken lanes.
Cérences is a stage town on the Chemins du Mont-Saint-Michel. Modern-day pilgrims stop there to admire the church.
