Pont-De-Lʼarche: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Pont-de-l’Arche emerged as a fortified medieval town around the year 1000 as a result of the Viking invasions.

History

The medieval townscape of Pont-de-l’Arche features a surviving crenellated tower. The base of the Tour de Crosne dates from the 13th century and was commissioned under Philip II Augustus. The Tour du bailliage has been preserved at the western corner of the town walls; a loophole and part of the former town wall are visible on it.

The Church of Notre-Dame-des-Arts was built in the Flamboyant Gothic style with Renaissance elements and has been classified as a historic monument since 1910. It houses 46 choir stalls from Bonport Abbey. Medieval half-timbered houses have been preserved in the rue Sainte-Marie district; they once leaned against the town walls.

The Maison du Gouverneur dates from the 16th century and was the seat of the town’s military administration. The Cour du Cerf contains a column with a sculpted capital originating from Bonport Abbey, founded by Richard the Lionheart. Jules Massenet composed the opera “Manon” at the Vieux Manoir in the 19th century. The Villa des Lauriers combines Gothic architecture with Art Nouveau.

The Salle d’Armes is located in a former Hôtel-Dieu dating from the 13th century and now houses exhibitions and concerts. The Maison en avant-solier is the last example of this architectural type in the area.

Nature

On the Poses–Rouen stage of La Seine à Vélo, the route follows the Eure River along a greenway to Pont-de-l’Arche. The 30-kilometre Voie verte along the Eure is intended exclusively for cyclists, pedestrians and people with reduced mobility, and connects Pinterville with Pont-de-l’Arche.

The banks of the Eure below Pont-de-l’Arche offer a green setting for walks and a viewpoint.
