Le Thuit: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château-Gaillard ensemble includes the Seine loop “de Château-Gaillard”, which extends, among other areas, across the territory of Le Thuit. Le Thuit is also designated as a classified site; the designation is dated 5 December 2006.

Landscape

The Coteaux du Thuit on the right bank of the Seine offer dizzying views of the Seine from an elevation of 130 metres. The 5 km-long Circuit du Thuit in Le Thuit is designated as a hiking trail, is mentioned in connection with mountain biking, and leads in the municipalities of Les Andelys and Le Thuit to a panorama of the Seine and its slopes.

The Grotte de la Roche Percée is also part of the landscape. It is a remarkable underground labyrinth extending over 400 m and was originally called Souterrain d’Encorchemont. It may be considered the first topographically surveyed cave in the history of Norman speleology.

History and Culture

Le Thuit was occupied successively by the Romans and the Merovingians. Until 1791, the place was called Saint-Martin-la-Fontaine.

The present-day Château du Thuit was built by the grandfather of Georges Guynemer; it was rebuilt in the 19th century. The residential building of the former manor house, with a round tower, is recorded on a plan from 1739.
