Culture and History

The Edict of Pîtres, issued in 864, reformed the currency. The Church of Notre-Dame in Pîtres dates from the 10th century.

Water and Paths

The Sainte-Hélène grain mill is located in Pîtres, in the Sainte-Hélène district on the Andelle. The Sainte-Hélène grain mill and its diversion channel had been built by 1804 at the latest. The mill’s hydraulic water wheel is still present, but is in poor condition.

The historic navigable section of the Andelle extended for 3 km from the Sainte-Hélène weir near Pîtres to its mouth at the Seine. The historic small port of Pîtres, also known as Port de l’Andelle, was established at the mouth of the Andelle on its left bank.

Pîtres is located along the route of the GR® 2 long-distance hiking trail, “Au fil de la Seine”. The GR® 2 “Au fil de la Seine” is a hiking trail from Rouen to Vernon. The Trail des Deux Amants starts in Pîtres. It includes trail races of 17, 25 and 53 km, night trails of 16 and 21 km, and a 14 km Nordic walk.

Local Life

A weekly market takes place in Pîtres every Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Au Moulin de l’Andelle guesthouse offers bicycle storage and repair equipment.
