The Église Saint-Vigor is classified as a historic monument and stands on a hill above the Anse du Cul de Loup in the Baie de Morsalines. From there, the view extends to the coasts of Manche and Calvados. The church was built from Valognes stone; construction began in the 12th century and ended at the beginning of the 13th century. It is generally regarded as a characteristic example of 13th-century Norman religious architecture.
In the nearby Église de Notre-Dame de Morsalines, the entire building is listed in the register of historic monuments. The bell tower, which served as a watchtower, has foundations that are probably of Romanesque origin, while its structure is Gothic. The church houses classified works of art, including an exceptional Baroque altarpiece from the 1730s. Visits are possible on request; in addition to religious ceremonies, numerous concerts take place there.
Paths through the Town and Countryside
The “L’empreinte des Vikings” circular trail passes through Quettehou and draws attention to the grain hall and the town hall, two buildings from the 19th century. As an easy hike, it covers 6.5 kilometres; the stated duration is 1 hour and 45 minutes. The trail also runs between land and sea around the Église Saint-Vigor, which offers an exceptional panoramic view of the surrounding area.
The “Des sources à la mer” circular trail follows the natural and domestic water cycle in Quettehou from the sources to the estuary. Along the way, it passes mills and coastal hinterland marshes. The easy hike, suitable for beginners, is 9.5 kilometres long and is given a duration of 2 hours and 15 minutes. The starting point can be reached via the “Quettehou – Mairie” stop on the Cap Cotentin bus network.
Coast and Nature
At low tide, shellfish can be collected on foot in Quettehou. The “Cap sur Morsalines” circular trail runs along the coast of Morsalines, which is designated as a Natura 2000 site.
