Nature

The Vallée des Vaux is considered a local landscape area in Combray. The circular hiking trail “Les Bois de Combray” passes through forests and picturesque villages, showcasing the scenic features of Suisse Normande.

Culture and History

The history of the village includes the three mills that once existed in Combray, one of them in the Vallée des Vaux. Today, only ruins remain of the former mills. The only surviving trace of the former Château de Combray is a medieval motte-and-bailey castle, now called “la grande cour”.

The Church of St Martin in Combray is under the patronage of Fontenay Abbey. Herringbone masonry, carved corbels and several window openings point to the medieval origins of the church. Stones in the Church of St Martin bear dates from the period between 1499 and 1733.

The family-friendly puzzle trail “L’initiation de Tristan” in Combray is designed for children aged seven and over. It includes puzzles and challenges and, as part of its narrative, accompanies a young squire through the first steps of his training to become a knight.
