Mazingarbe is one of the municipalities whose cultural heritage was recognised and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.
Culture
Mazingarbe Town Hall was built at the beginning of the 20th century under the direction of Louis Mercier, then Managing Director of the Compagnie des Mines de Béthune. From 1946 to 1970, the building was converted into a maternity clinic.
The Eglise Sainte-Rictrude was built from white stone in the 12th-century Gothic style; its exterior was extensively renovated in 2006.
The Chapelle Saint-Roch was built in 1724 by the Dupuich family in gratitude for the protection of their relatives and the villagers during the Suette epidemic. The Chapelle Saint Hubert was built in 1745 by Béharelle, a farmer from Saulchoy; since 28 March 1977, it has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments.
One possible travel plan is to rent a holiday apartment in Mazingarbe.
Activities
Tennis can be played free of charge at Parc Mercier; booking via Maz'Appli is required. There is also a mini-golf course and a pump track.
Nature
The former Château Mercier includes a large park with ponds. On Terril No. 58a – Grenay Mazingarbe, the ponds serve as breeding grounds for the natterjack toad (Epidalea calamita), the spotted pelodyte (Pelodytes punctatus), a relative of the tree frog, and the midwife toad (Alytes obstetricans). The spoil heap is connected to the nearby former coal facilities of Mazingarbe.
