The Cité de la Victoire with its school, the Cité des Arbres with its school, and a Société de Secours minière medical station in Houdain were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 30 June 2012.

Culture and History
The local history includes the former Ernest Damay brasserie-malterie, later known as Damay Frères. It produced malt and top-fermented beer; in 1959, production amounted to 10,000 hectolitres of Damay-branded beer.
On the Church of Saint John the Baptist, a tomb slab for Jean-Baptiste-Ferdinand Kerkof is attached to the outside of the southern buttress of the main façade. The nave also contains the statue of Saint John the Baptist on a console to the right of the chancel arch. Hervé invented French opéra-bouffe before his great rival Jacques Offenbach.
Nature and Trails
The “Les Châtaignes d'Houdain” circular trail leads from the lower part of Houdain, mostly through fields at the foothills of the Artois hills. Several viewpoints offer views over the valleys of the Brette and the Lawe.
Trails and Activities
The Route du Patois starts at Place des Martyrs in Houdain. It is a 33 km circular route that can be travelled by bicycle or car. Signs featuring humorous drawings and sayings in the local dialect accompany the route.
Parc d'Olhain in Houdain has a treetop adventure course with activities for children up to 5 years old, children aged 5 to 10, and adults aged 10 and over, as well as optional zip lines.
Other Places
The Abbaye de Belval, a monastery, is located near Houdain. In the wider region are Abbaye Saint Benoît de Ham-en-Artois, a monastery; Canadian National Vimy Memorial, a monument; and Abbaye Notre-Dame de Beaupré, a historic site. The “Parc du chàteau” park is also located in the wider area around Houdain.
