Culture and History
The Château de Paulin rises more than 100 metres above the Oulas gorges; it is considered an important part of the cultural heritage of the municipality of Paulinet. The oldest part of the complex is the west wing, dating from the 15th to 16th centuries and ending in a tower. The Château de Paulin is not open to the public for visits.
Saint-Jean-de-Jeannes is a very old mining site at the confluence of the valleys of the Dadou, Ambias and Ambiasselle. The pilgrimage to Notre Dame de la Garde also dates back a long way: it is documented by a papal bull from 1208. The pilgrimage still takes place, on Whit Monday and on 15 August.
Notre-Dame d’Ourtiguet is one of the churches in Paulinet that houses sculptures by Laclau. Pierre-Paul Laclau (1840–1908), the creator of numerous wood carvings, came from the parish of Notre-Dame d’Ourtiguet in Paulinet.
Nature and Trails
Paulinet features deeply carved, wooded valleys. These include the valleys of the Dadou, Oulas, Assou and Ambias; springs, rivers, rocks and meadows also characterise the area.
The Sentier des Bergers is free to access and open all year round. The hiking trail passes through the village of Notre Dame d’Ourtiguet. Along the way, it offers an exceptional view of the Château de Paulin.
Farm and Local Offers
Les Paulinetoises produces sheep’s cheese on the farm using milk produced exclusively on its own premises.
The Au Fer à Cheval educational farm in La Bourrelié, Paulinet, organises holiday camps, discovery classes and school trips.
